Cards of Caring

Students at Brookside Place School created nearly 300 handmade holiday cards for local senior citizens with the aim of spreading seasonal good cheer and brightening spirits. Snowmen, candy canes, snowflakes and snowy scenes were just some of the motifs that accompanied the warm wishes. The service project was coordinated by the Brookside Student Council to benefit local seniors who might be feeling a little isolated due to the restrictions on gathering precipitated by the COVID-19 health crisis. In the past, Student Council members have visited area care facilities in person to perform holiday carols, but those types of programs are suspended under current safety protocols. “We hope these cards will help remind people that even if we can’t be there in person, they are still in our thoughts at the holidays,” said Mrs. Beth Lambe, a special education teacher who is a co-advisor of the BPS Student Council along with Grade 5 teacher Mrs. Nansie Collins. “The students put a lot of care into their cards and I hope that will create some smiles for our Cranford seniors.”
